HOW TO GET GREEN GRASS: TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A LUSH LAWN

Every homeowner wants their lawn to be beautiful, lush and green. A healthy lawn not only adds to the beauty of your home but offers guests a warm welcoming environment to walk into. However, keeping your lawn lush green is often easier said than done, so here are the best ways to get green grass fast and ensure that it stays that way.

Soil Preparation

Soil preparation is incredibly important when you are planting new grass. Tilling the soil will allow it to trap more air, water, and nutrients, and clearing it of any vegetation, rocks or other debris is crucial so that interferes with the growth of the new grass.

The soil bed should also be level and free of any large bumps or depressions to ensure that all the grass gets an equal amount of water. Level is the best way to avoid uneven watering

Testing the pH level of the soil before planting new grass is also essential. If the pH level is lower than 6.0 or higher than 7.5 it will make it a lot harder for the new grass to grow. Soil amendments like compost, peat moss, and other organic matter can help improve pH levels and soil texture and provide important nutrients.

Choosing the Right Grass

It's important to choose the right type of grass for the region you live in, as climate has a big effect on what grass can be properly grown. However, drought-tolerant grasses like Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue can thrive pretty much anywhere making them a great choice for homeowners all over the country.

Laying Sod and Seeding

Whether you’re installing sod or planting seed, it's important to plant new grass at the right time. Early spring and fall are the best times to plant new grass, while summer and winter should be avoided as the more extreme temperatures can require more water or icy conditions.

Fertilizing

Fertilizing properly is another important part of keeping grass healthy and green. You should always choose an appropriate fertilizer for the type of grass that you have and closely follow the directions on its packaging. Fertilizing too much or too little can seriously impede the growth of your lawn.

Watering

New grass needs sufficient water to stay lush and green, but once established you shouldn’t water your lawn every day. Instead, watering less frequently and more deeply will allow the roots to grow deeper into the ground, where water is more likely to be absorbed by the roots of grass and less likely to be lost to evaporation.

Purchase Sod Grown in Iron Rich Soil

Sod grown in Iron rich soils will easily provide an increased but balanced Iron level for your lawn for many years to come. Iron rich soils are found across the nation and are typically red (rust) in color. Red colored soils when combined with other soils will slowly release stored iron to your lawn for years.

Mowing

Keeping your lawn at the right height is another essential step to maintaining a green lawn. While the ideal height your lawn should be can depend on the type of grass growing in it, keeping it around a length of 3 inches is a good general rule.

Some types of grass grow faster than others so the frequency with which you’ll need to mow your lawn may be different from your neighbor’s. However, as long as you cut your grass frequently enough to keep it at around that height, that’s all that matters.
